No Choice for Planned Parenthood Clinics, Abortions Required

Image of Planned Parenthood signWhile Planned Parenthood wants us to believe that it’s all about women’s health, pro-lifers say that PP is all about killing babies, and Rush Limbaugh has often suggested that abortion is virtually a sacrament to these people. Surely these are mischaracterizations. Surely.

Here’s an interesting news story that presents a surprising point of view. The Houston Chronicle reported in August, that a Planned Parenthood clinic in Amarillo and one in Corpus Christi were forced to pull out of the Federation because Planned Parenthood Federation of America adopted a policy, approved by vote of affiliate representatives, that will require affiliates nationwide to provide abortion in at least one clinic, starting in 2013. (Planned Parenthood is not pro-choice, in this case.)

Claudia Stravato and Amanda Stukenberg are not pro-life advocates; they are staunchly pro-abortion. In this article, they claim to be long-time supporters of abortion rights, condemn the right as judgmental, and even call abortion services “a need”.

They criticized the federation saying that

The organization has deviated from its mission, and allowed itself to become mired in a culture war over abortion that has jeopardized the other 97 percent of services it provides… By defining itself as the champion for abortion rights, Planned Parenthood lost its place as the champion for prevention.

Stravato and Stukenberg criticize PPFA’s recent policy, saying

Recent reforms within the organization have fed the stereotype of Planned Parenthood as a pseudo nonprofit run by New York suits chiefly concerned with dominating the abortion industry.

We’d have to agree with parts of that criticism.

The CEO of the Planned Parenthood clinic in Houston, Peter Durkin, calls abortion services, “a vital part of the ‘continuum of care’ and ‘a moral imperative.’” He calls for abortionists “to have the courage of our convictions… Particularly in red states, we have to say, ‘I’m proud of this service.’” “By this service, he delicately refers to abortion.

So, while Planned Parenthood is taking away the right of their clinics to choose, and while abortionists are working up the nerve to be proud of “this service”, we need to have the courage of our convictions.

Planned Parenthood is all about abortions. We are not the only ones to see it.
